“Since it is a period film, Mani is not ready to make any compromise as far as locations are concerned. Recently, he embarked on a marathon journey of location hunting,” say sources.

Kavalan 75th day Successfully running

Ilayathalapathi Vijay's Kavalan is slowly but surely becoming stronger by the day at the box-office.

The family audiences all over Tamil Nadu are thronging the theatres, to watch this Vijay entertainer.

Says director Siddique, who is shooting for Hindi Bodyguard with Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in Pune: " My phone hasn't stopped ringing since the release of Kaavalan. The kids are enjoying the clean comedy of Vijay and Vadivel in the first half and ladies are hooked to the last 15 minutes of the stunning climax. The feedback that I'm getting is that it is an out and out Vijay film and he has excelled".

At the Tamilnadu box-office, Kavalan has taken a better second weekend collections than the first week! At Devi Paradise, a mass theatre in Chennai the second weekend is much more than the first week. The first week collections were truncated as the film released a day later, and prints reached most of the centres, only for the evening show and there was no publicity.

Two days after the film's release Ilayathalapathi went on a counter offensive, as he started a one man campaign by giving interviews to the print and electronic media. Finally the channels started telecasting the songs, and the word-of-mouth was encouraging.

As a leading distributor said: "The vested interests went out of their way to sabotage the film, but people saw through the game and made it a hit. Nobody can make a good film a flop nor can a bad film be boosted by heavy publicity blitz."

Vijay's Makkal Iyakkam hands support to AIADMK

Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, a people?s movement launched by actor Vijay, has decided to support the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) led front in the Assembly elections.
S. A. Chandrasekaran, noted film director and father of actor Vijay, called on AIADMK General Secretary Jayalalithaa at Sangam Hotel here on Sunday noon and informed her about the decision.
Later Mr. Chandrasekaran told presspersons that the Iyakkam favoured a political change in the state for its overall development and for the well-being of all sections of the society. The Iyakkam is of the firm view that political change in the state is the need of the hour, taking into consideration the happenings in various fronts of late.
Enormity of violence, price hike, rampant corruption prevailing in the administration were the three reasons that forced the Iyakkam to seek a change of government in the state. ?We will highlight all these issues during the campaign?, he said.
The Iyakkam will extend its total support for ushering in such a political change, to enable the AIADMK to capture power and form the next Government under Ms. Jayalalithaa.
Responding to a query, Mr. Chandrasekaran said the decision to support AIADMK in the elections was not a prelude to the Iyakkam turning into a political movement. ?We are not a political outfit. We are not against anybody. We only want a political change in the state now in the interest of the whole society?.
Mr. Chandrasekaran said he will soon commence his campaign. When asked whether Vijay will also campaign for the AIADMK front, he replied that it was for the actor to decide.

WHO IS THE NEXT SUPERSTAR ?

We love our heroes in this part of the world, particularly in the Tamil film industry. And they simply do not make them bigger than our very own ‘Thalaivaaaaaa’, Rajnikanth. Every time a Rajni movie releases, most true – blooded fans are caught up in the hysteria that is generated and allow themselves to be enveloped by the Superstar juggernaut. Which Tamilian has not basked in the reflected glory when accolade after accolade is showered on him from being the highest paid actor in Asia and certainly the most beloved one to the recent ‘NDTV Entertainer of the Year’ award? But what if the unthinkable happens and the Superstar decides to take off his acting boots and retire to the Himalayas or something? For fans of Tamil Cinema, it would be a terrible loss comparable to the grief every Indian must experience if Sachin Tendulkar were to retire from International cricket. There has been considerable debate and a spate of controversy over a worthy successor to Rajnikanth.

1.VIJAY

Vijay or ‘Ilaya Thalapathi’ as he is lovingly called by his adoring fans is an established star in his own right and one of the stalwarts of the industry. He is Superstar material simply because he does not blindly emulate the original Superstar and brings his own particular style to his portrayals. The man is charismatic, has screen presence, fantastic voice modulation, can totally rock a fight sequence, shake a leg with the best of them, and romance the pants off his heroines. And he sings pretty decently. In movies like “Gilli” and “Pokkiri”, he managed to find his groove and a permanent place in the hearts of the audiences.

The promising actor has faced his share of problems from a string of flops to clashes with political head honchos. But he has made a strong comeback with his latest “Kaavalan” which has been declared a smash hit and also won him critical acclaim for his restrained performance. Here’s hoping he picks his scripts with a little more care and makes great films that will do the industry proud.

AJITH KUMAR

There is no denying that ‘Thala’ has style, attitude, and oodles of charm. There are hordes of fans across the length and breadth of the state who simply refuse to give up on him, despite an unenviable string of colossal flops. Movies like “Vaali”, “Villain”, and “Varalaru” showcased his acting chops and proved that as an actor he has a wealth of potential.

However, Ajith seems to attract controversy like an industrial strength magnet. From his much publicized disagreements with producers and directors which have resulted in his being forced out of promising projects to inflammatory speeches on political harassment which led to him being hounded, he is no stranger to trouble.

If he were to simply focus on making awesome movies with talented people and steers clear of controversy and alternative career paths, he will be doing himself and his fans a big favor. “Mankatha” with Venkat Prabhu promises to be exactly what the doctor ordered for this beleaguered star.

A.R Rahman Confirms in Ponniyin Selvan

There is a huge buzz surrounding Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan. Kalki’s epic classic has captivated generations of Tamilians and continues to do so. Fans of his work are anxious to find out who will play the characters that are deeply ingrained in their hearts. So far Vijay, Mahesh Babu, Arya, and Anushka have been confirmed for the project.
In recent times, Mani and A.R Rahman have teamed up together to create memorable music and so it was believed that they would come together again for this mammoth undertaking. But there were reports that Rahman is far too busy with international projects to be a part of Ponniyin Selvan.
However, sources within Mani’s camp insist that it will be Rahman who will be doing the music. It must be remembered that Mani had wished to make Ayutha Ezhuthu without music but Rahman would not hear of it. He came up with some magnificent tunes and convinced Mani to include the songs in his movie. This time also the two legends will work together and hopefully the results will do the Tamil film industry proud.

"VIJAY IN HOLLYWOOD SOON" - Sathyaraj

The audio launch of SA Chandrasekaran directed ‘Sattapadi Kuttram’ today became a heated dais for all dignitaries to air their views and vent their anger on whether Illaya Thalapathi Vijay should enter politics or not. The venue was Kamala Theatres and all who had gathered at the function let their minds speak without hang-ups.
The bomb was first lit by producer K T Kunjumon who opened the subject first and intensely argued that Vijay must enter politics. He said he went and offered his supported Vijay at the Nagapattinam rally on his own after seeing the fire in Vijay.
Owner of Kamala Theatre and close friend to many industry giants like MGR and Sivaji, Chidambaram Chettiar politely requested Vijay not to enter politics. He said that, he said the same thing to Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji when he launched his political out fit in the late eighties.
Chidambaram also said Vijay is an extra ordinary actor who can challenge even the Hollywood. So he said to Vijay's father SA Chandrasekaran, " if you want enter politics please do and contest elections. But leave Vijay out of it".
Most others like Seeman, Sathyaraj and Selvamani heatedly refuted Chidambaram saying if good people like Vijay stays out of politics then every Tom Dick and Harry who wants to loot the people will get the field to play. They said Vijay should not allow that to happen and soon enter politics.
The heat is very much on. Check out the video to see what exactly happened.

Vijay, Arya, Mahesh babu & anushka in Maniratnam film

Mani Ratnam’s yet-to-be-started ‘magnum opus’, which is said to be inspired by Tamil’s much celebrated novel Ponniyin Selvan by Kalki, is getting more additions each passing day.
A day after it was said that Arya would be part of this multicrore multistarrer, we have it now that Anushka, who is making waves in Kollywood and Tollywood simultaneously, has also been roped in for this project.
“Anushka has signed on the dotted lines. She is playing a very crucial role in this film. Others who had been finalised for the project so far are Vijay, Mahesh Babu and Arya,” say sources.
A bilingual, the film will be produced by Mani’s Madras Talkies. However, plans are on to join hands with other production houses at a later stage. “It is still a question that whether the movie would be in historic background or Mani would give the script a contemporary look,” sources add.

Vijay is a great guy: Ileana

Ileana D’Cruz is happy that she is back in Kollywood with the high profile ‘Nanban’. And her joy is double to act with Vijay, with her first scene with the Ilaya Thalapathi being shot recently.
“Had my first scene with Vijay. And he’s really not what I expected! A real nice guy with a quiet sense of humour. A pleasure to work with,” says the pretty actress, expressing her happiness.
Ileana bought her ticket for Tamil cinema in ‘Kedi’, but the film’s failure forced her to stay away from Kollywood. She however became a hot property in Telugu, by acting opposite all top heroes.
‘Nanban’, directed by Shankar, is a remake of Hindi hit ‘Three Idiots’. The Tamil version has Vijay, Srikanth and Jeeva in lead roles. “Shankar is so down-to-earth. Working with him is pleasure,” Ileana said earlier.

Vijay’s Makkal Iyakkam to get 3 seats by ADMK

Tamil cinema and Tamil Nadu politics are like two sides of a coin. That too with the Assembly elections nearing, you just can’t separate these two powerful entities, which go hand in hand for decades.
Coming to the latest buzz, Vijay’s Makkal Iyakkam, which is said to be the actor’s launch vehicle for his political entry, is all set to face the elections by joining hands with the main opposition AIADMK.
“In all probability, the AIADMK leadership may allot three seats to Vijay’s outfit. The actor will not contest the polls. However, he may tour the whole State campaigning for the alliance,” sources say.
“Two important office bearers of the Makkal Iyakkam and Vijay’s father S A Chandrasekar will fight the elections on behalf of the Ilaya Thalapathi,” they add. Remember Vijay recently came down heavily on the ruling DMK for allegedly posing hurdles to his film ‘Kavalan’.

'Pagalavan' Vijay as a one man army

All the works from the creative side of Seeman for the film 'Pagalavan' are complete. Vijay who heard the final script of the film with the scenario and dialogues was much excited and he has pushed Seeman to start the film immediately.

Vijay’s role in the film will be a never seen before one and Seeman on his part has loaded the film with fiery dialogues that oozes fire. The mass hero image of Vijay is expected to rise several levels up after this film.

But there is an inexplicable delay in starting 'Pagalavan' as the production house is still under consideration. We carried the news of Kalaipuli Thanu producing the film under his banner and even he paying an advance to Seeman. But according to a prior agreement, Vijay's next film should go to Super Good Films.

Seeman and Vijay are keen to start the film as soon as the elections are over. All hope an amicable settlement regarding the production house will be taken in a few weeks time.

VIJAY joined in 'Nanban' - Countdown starts

Ilayathalapathy Vijay is done with shooting for 'Jeyam' Raja's Velayudham and news is that the entire movie's shooting has been wrapped up. A couple of patch up shots are what is left and Velayudham will go to the post production stage within a couple of days. Vijay has now joined Shankar's Nanban cast and crew at a college in Dehradun (Uttarakhand) where its Hindi original 3 Idiots was filmed.
Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth, Ileana, Sathyaraj and Anuya are now present there and the major part of the movie is to be canned with them together there. With things going in a steady pace, looks like Vijay will have two releases this year and one being a multi-starrer, it certainly kindles our curiosity and interests.
